In case you were wondering.........the sun flower in the previous post is from Janice's garden. Isn't it pretty?
Happy 1 month anniversary to Brett and I today! Goodness, I am blessed beyond measure.
I made meatloaf and pototoes/gravy tonight. I was proud of myself for making the gravy because I really didn't have the right stuff (or so I thought ). I melted some margarine in the pan first (2 or 3 tablespoons......no, not very healthy). I then added some milk, water, flour, salt, pepper, and beef bouillon cubes (2)...it was very good, actually :)
The Nervous System sock activity went great! The kids are so smart..they totally guessed the carrot sock, dryer sheet sock...and a few others.
Have I mentioned how great my kiddos are? They are G=R=E=A=T.
Time for dishes and payin' bills :).

Tomorrow is Nervous System Day in class! :) I will be putting these items in socks (clean ones :) and the students will have to use all of their senses (minus taste :( to figure out what the items are. Here is a good website for the nervous system: http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/neurok.html

Brett and I spent some time mowing this afternoon. We were blessed with a somewhat cool breeze.
I used to not like sunflowers. Why, I don't know. But there is a school Fayetteville we drive past sometimes and their entire fence row is lined with sunflowers....and it's such a pretty sight. I guess my mind has started to change.
We had dinner with momma, daddy, pat, lillie, jack, and ed and janice today. It was so fun! :)
Have happy Monday.--Let's just praise the Lord!

A much better food photo :)

I love him. Never a dull moment in the house! Can you see why? (he was "saving the dip" for later...on his face. Gross? Yep. But absolutely funny?oh yes :) )
I should really offer a prize to the person who can guess what the mysterious burnt dinner is (or was) :).....many have asked..so...(drumroll please............)

THAI CHICKEN. Now, if you're close to my family at all you might be asking, wait didn't her sister have a beautiful picture of thai chicken posted on her site that she recently made? :) Yes, she did. If you're interested you may want to ask her for help in making it instead of me! :)
Actually, I used my big crockpot (which was too big on this occasion) for the chicken......and it cooked too long....so there you have it.
I'm really not that bad of a cook :). I think I need a new photo post to redeem myself. (check later on today)

Today I wandered the aisles of the crazy mixed up land of Walmart for over an hour....they're re-doing the store and not even the employees know where things are located! Did you know you can buy fruit roll ups that have tattoos for your tongue? I bought dear husband some :). They have batman and joker on them!
Friday we had our regular "Class Meeting" which involves complimenting one another and talking about problems from the week, etc. (you didn't know I was part counselor too?). One of the boys, during compliment said, "I want to compliment Mrs. Torbett because she's pretty." The whole class lost it...but I thought it was sweet :)
We did an egg drop Friday for fun and the kiddos looooved it! I have a good class. Haven't wanted to admit it yet for fear they'll turn to little monsters. But really-they have such unique personalities.

Dinner anyone? :)

Needless to say....dinner didn't turn out quite like I expected tonight. This is what I came home to find in the crock pot. Yummm....... :) no, we didn't eat it!
School is going well...for both of us. I've been working a LOT this week...and Brett's been studying and working a lot. My class is personality-filled this year...but such sweet kids, really.
It is good to be Mrs. Torbett (which the kids have almost caught on to now).
Love.

The merged styles of Mr. and Mrs. Brett Torbett
Kind of a dark phto...but this is our dining room/Brett's work area :)
This is my desk/work area

My new students are coming soon! So far, I have experienced a calm about this year I don't think I ever felt at all last year. Things have been extremely busy and pretty non-stop as far as school goes.....but I've been pretty excited about this year.

I ordered a lot of books for the classroom (books are really my passion).....only a few have arrived in the mail so far, but there is one in particular I am impressed with, Museum ABC. They also have Museum 1-2-3 and Museum Shapes as well. The ABC book goes through the alphabet and on one side of the page will say something like "Y is for yellow"........the other page will then have famous paintings with the color yellow. These books are done by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
My classroom is finished, and I have received several compliments of people saying it has a calm, relaxing feel...wonderful! One of my other co-teachers really rubbed off on me this year and I am pretty organized. Of course 28 students can do a lot of damage to that. We'll see :)
Brett has started grad.school so he has been pretty busy between that and work. I have been learning to be a good wife by cooking and helping more with things around the house so he can study and work on projects. We're doing well. :)
Goodnight.

We went fishin' today! Brett, Daddy, and I went to the pond at the farm....Jack joined us later on. We had a great, rainy time :). It drizzled on us,but the weather was so cool and nice...I caught the fish I'm pictured with! :) It was exciting. My wonderful husband is now cooking the fish we caught....we hope it's good! It sure smells delicious. :)school starts tomorrow for teachers! back to reality :)...........I'm getting prayed up for the kiddos who come next week.......
"till next time", Mrs. Torbett

I rolled right outta' bed today......literally. :)
There I was, hugging my side of the bed (clinging to the side of the bed, really)....I went to roll over and plopped right onto the floor. Luckily, Brett had hit snooze on the alarm (he works today) so he wasn't quite awake enough for it to be really embarassing. I laughed harder than he. I told him about falling off the bed in college and how I apparently grabbed the microwave on my way down. He assured me we'd get 1.) a king size bed or 2.) a microwave to grab on the way down from the queen :)

We went to eat at Pesto Cafe last night...it was delicious! Plus, their angel hair pasta serving is enough for 2 or 3 servings...I always bring home left-overs which is nice. We didn't make it to the Batman movie afterwards because we took too long at dinner. Instead we got dessert and sat outside at Common Grounds and then came home and watched Lonesome Dove-the sole movie we both enjoy equally.
This morning I've already gone to the grocery store and Abby is coming over at 10 for a visit! I am so excited! :)
Just wanted to update everybody.....pictures coming soon.

I got to see these sweet girls today....and this handsome guy! What fun we had!
Yet another reason why dear husband reminds me of dear daddy. :) Yes, this is potted meat.....eaten as a delicacy with cheese and crackers.
I somewhat finished my classroom today....as in organizing, decorating, etc. I had a few extra hands to help yesterday...thanks again Momma and Daddy! I went for an "outdoorsy" look in the room.....I love it and hope the students do as much, or more than me. Pictures coming soon! Janice, Lillie, and momma are coming to visit it tomorrow so that is a big deal to me............
Tomorrow Brett and I are going on a date! I'm excited :). Talk to ya'll soon...Mrs. Torbett

Having a husband makes things interesting :)
Notice "chocolate" the bear (that I've had forrrrever) stuck way on top of the pillow mountain.
Can you guess who made the bed?

Things are great in the Torbett household! I have successfully gone to work and cooked dinner when I got home the last two nights. A small accomplishment for some...but a goal of mine. :) Tonight we had chicken pot pie, salad, and mashed potatoes/gravy (the potatoes are a long story......I know they don't really go).
Work is in full swing! I am being super organized and am so excited to have my room the way I like it. I will definitely do a huge classroom post when I near completion.
Other than that Brett and I have been opening wedding presents...rearranging the condo some, working on the farm some (he's been doing the working mostly), and just getting used to our schedule together as a married couple. He starts school next week to get his MBA from the U of A.
Marriage is wonderful :).
