I took this picture of my neighbor's house (hope they didn't see me!) because I loooooved the idea of hanging up curtains outside on the porch! I wish I would have thought of it before they put theirs up because if I put some up now I'd look like a copy cat.:)

Hair today,
Gone tomorrow.
I'm getting a haircut tomorrow and I am excited! I always tell myself I'll grow my hair long(er) and then off it goes.
The Fall Party is this Saturday! There will be games, food, and lots of fun. I am so looking forward to it.
Here are a couple of links to some crafts I want to make:

*I heard the following song (by Stephen Curtis Chapman) tonight and thought of my two sisters who are stay at home moms. Be encouraged girls! :)
One Heartbeat At A Time

You're up all night with a screaming baby

You run all day at the speed of life

And every day you feel a little bit less

Like the beautiful woman you are

So you fall in bed when you run out of hours

And you wonder if anything worth doing got done

Well, maybe you just don't know

Or maybe you've forgotten

That you, you are changing the world

One little heartbeat at a time

Making history with every touch and every smile

Oh, you, you may not see it now

But I believe that time will tell

How you, you are changing the world

One little heartbeat at a time

With every "I know you can do it"

And every tear that you kiss away

So many little things that seem to go unnoticed

They're just like the drops of rain over time

They become a river

And you, you are changing the world

One little heartbeat at a time

Making history with every touch and every smile

Oh, you, you may not see it now

But I believe that time will tell

How you, you are changing the world

One little heartbeat at a time

You're beautifulSo beautiful

How you're changing the world

Yeah, you're changing the world

You, you are changing the world

One little heartbeat at a time

Making history with every touch and every smile

Oh, you, you may not see it now

But I believe that time will tell

How you, you are changing the world

Oh, I believe that you

You are changing the world

One little heartbeat

At a time

I had parent/teacher conferences after school today, so I worked a total of 12 hours. My dear husband took extra good care of me and had candles lit and dinner waiting when I got home! He's also cleaned up the house....and bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers to celebrate the first day of fall. How good it feels to be loved and taken care of! :)

Apples from the farm I used to make apple crisp!
Such a beautiful sight! I always say that God could have left everything on earth a neutral shade...but He didn't! What a blessing that He decided to bless us with a little color.

My dear husband was fascinated by this little green snake today.
I was not!

This is a turtle Brett rescued from the road. I named him "Yertle". Yertle kept me company while I graded papers today (inside the house). He wouldn't eat the piece of chip Ed offered him though....... :)
So there are two important events you need to be aware of! The big event for October is the Fall Party which will take place at the old house on the farm in Goshen. It will be on October 4th and will start around 6:00. There will be food, games, and celebration!
The second big event is the 2nd Annual Variety Show which will take place at momma and daddy's house on Thanksgiving Day. This is your chance to shine! Come prepared with a dance, song, skit, etc. Costumes are optional, but you don't have to show up in your costume..you can change before the show. :)
I hope you're looking forward to these events as much as I am! In my humble opinion...there are far too many things in life not worth celebrating at all....so I believe in finding the things that ARE worth celebrating...and life, family, and friends are some of those things! :)

We laughed and cried...but mostly laughed 'till we cried.
Bring back memories?? :) (Grandma, you lucked out...I couldn't get your picture to post! :( I'm sorry...and Bec I took these pics from your blog and there were no pictures of you....this year I'll getchya!)
Just a friendly reminder that the 2nd Annual Variety show (which will be bigger and better this year-two new additions this year--Caleb and Nathan!) will be in two months and ten days.
You may sing, dance, do a demonstration, read a selection, drama, teach us something, or do a combination of all! The sky is the limit!
*Just thought I'd provide something to look forward to! Back to paperwork for school for me :(

Happy it's the weekend and Brett and I get to go out! No studying or housework! :) :) :)
Some of my students made this. It is the White House, constructed from index cards.
We took this with my Webcam on my laptop. Pretty cool huh! :)

This is a gourmet snack in the eyes of my husband. American cheese melted on tortilla chips. Yumm....... ?
This picture is a thank-you for Grandma! This pan had potatoes and onions stuck to the bottom pretty bad. Grandma said to put some baking soda on it and then add a bit of water (enough to cover the burned part), and then boil it for a second. I did that, and the burned stuff came right off! :)

Dinner a few nights ago. This is proof that I really do cook for Brett :)
Post #57! My favorite number. :)
The weekend is almost here and I am looking forward to hanging out with my momma, relaxing with Brett, and getting caught up on cleaning/grocery shopping/sleep :).
Thanksgiving Variety Show coming soon! Prepare now! :)

Cute new clothes from my mom-in-law, Janice :). Thank-you! A perfect fit :).
Today we had a birthday celebration at momma and daddy's after church.. It was wonderful! Grandma, Papaw, the Mccraine's, the Crosses, the Capper's, and the Torbett's were all there. We ate, opened gifts, ate pie, played water balloon volleyball, badmitton, and visited. I so enjoyed the day. Check Jana or Becca's site for pictures! (I didn't take any :( )
Talk to ya'll soon!

This is a rose one of my students brought me for my birthday. I tried to hold it like a beauty queen :), but it ended up looking like I was holding a baby instead.OH well, the girls liked it. :)
These are the beautiful, cheerful flowers my dear husband sent me. Don't they just make you smile?
I am feeling somewhat better today...and am trying to make myself relax. Brett is good about making me rest. :)

Today I received beautiful flowers at school from my dear husband. I will post a picture later.
I also received many phone calls and I apologize for not calling you all back.
I got a shot and antibiotics today..........because I have a sinus infection. :(

Daddy called our birthdays in to KLRC to play on the radio and momma called and said won the marketplace gift certificate! What excitement :)

Prayers please....
love.

Peaches 'n' Cream Pie:

I made this pie for Brett's food day at work. I may have gone a little heavy on the cinnamon/sugar...and Brett and I went for a stroll while it was in the oven so it may have cooked a bit long. I guess we'll find out!
For my birthday tomorrow Brett offered to take me to a play.....instead we're going to wait until November because Anne of Green Gables is coming to the Arts Center! I can't wait :).
So, he let me pick the night's agenda....We will be eating at PowerHouse (because they have the BEST caesar salad I have ever eaten..such a treat), and then go to Barnes and Noble, then go to ColdStone, and then rent a funny movie. I am very, very excited.
We had our first book club meeting tonight. I have some catch up reading to do in the Screwtape letters, but I really enjoyed our discussion tonight. It was very thought provoking.
Nurse Abby (Abby Dorman) is coming as a guest speaker at school tomorrow...plus I get to see my momma after school. It is going to be a good day!
love.

I signed up to teach an after-school club at school today. It will run twice a week, for an hour and a half each time..........for about 5 or 6 weeks. The name of my club is.................

Puppets and Poetry

I am really excited about this! I will have 15 first and second-graders and we are going to read poems already written, as well as write our own. We're also going to make various types of puppets (such as hand, sock, marionette, paper mache,etc.). We will sometimes make puppets for poems already written. We will also write and design our own poems and puppets...
Can everyone please save cereal boxes? (or boxes of similiar size?) I found a great idea on how to make a mini puppet stage with this type of box.
I also joined a Thursday night bookclub today........it's being facilitated by some girls from the Link and should work out perfectly! I love to read....and I love having fellowship with other girls. Plus Brett has a study group on Thursday nights for a couple of hours......we may even be able to ride together to book club and study group. Our first book we'll be reading is called the Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.
Talk to you all soon! Love. p.s.-If you would like the e-mails with the links about poems and puppetry I will be using let me know!

Edit to post: Reminder, the 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Variety Show will be occuring in three short months! Time to dust off those costumes, wake up those vocal chords, and get those feet to dancin'. Start preparing your act now!
It's a jolly holiday being married to Mr. Brett Torbett :)
Don't you make Rice Krispie Treats in the shape of a Christmas tree in September?
You should :).
