Brett took me to see... The Secret Life of Bees tonight. This is a picture of the pink house from the movie......and one of my favorite quotes from the movie.. " Some things don't matter much. Like the color of a house. How big is that in the overall scheme of life? But lifting a person's heart--now, that matters. The whole problem with people is ... they know what matters, but they don't choose it... The hardest thing on earth is choosing what matters."
This movie had some very true pieces of wisdom in it..........it was also one of the most deeply sad movies I've ever seen. Almost too sad for my taste.
I was glad Brett took me to see it though. He was the only guy in the theater...what a husband! :)
Tomorrow is a quilt meeting! I have (lately) thought about getting a sewing machine......I have so many craft/bag ideas....plus it would be neat to make a quilt.
We had our "fall party" at school today....and I voted today! I believe this is a right all should exercise. I waited about an hour in line........but saw our children's pastors, and stood right behind Craig Depew (someone I went to school with my whole life). It was good to catch up with all! :)
VARIETY show is still coming soon..........as well as a creative reminder.
To get your thoughts going.........here are some options (in case you don't have an act picked out yet!)
You could sing, dance, do some type of demonstration, teach us something, read a scripture, play an instrument, share a hidden talent, tell a story, do a skit, etc. etc.etc.
'till next time! :)

A big thank-you to everyone who checked on me while I've been sick the last couple of days! I had a stomach virus and sinus infection but am now up and running (just rather slowly at times). :)
I have the dearest husband who took such good care of me....he took me to the doctor, cooked me soup, cleaned up the house, prayed for me, brought me a cool wash cloth for my head...etc.
He has the "in sickness and health" part down, I'd say.
My momma spoiled me as well and brought me two frozen strawberry treats from Sonic which tasted sooooooo good. I've never had a frozen strawberry slushie before but man are they good! They taste like the juice you drink (or I do at least) after you've eaten all the fresh strawberries out of a bowl-delicious!

Look for a creative post coming soon about the V_R_E_Y S_O_
Oh! and excitement at school........the Springdale fire department was having a contest at each school and the prize was a ride to school in the fire truck (plus time to hang out with the firemen at the station beforehand.....and rumor of a breakfast at McDonald's too!).
So, representing Westwood school as the winner in the contest was one of my students! Big eyes...and dimple and the longest eye lashes you've ever seen (I can't say his name but momma and daddy should know who he is)! Man, is he excited. :) What pure delight I saw on his face when he told me about it today! I plan on taking pictures and having the class clapping and cheering as he pulls up to the school.... :)

This post is a shout-out to my bro-in-law, Sam :) He will be thrilled to know that my dear husband has me watching Star Wars. He brought the set home from the old house and I let him know I was not thrilled about it. However, last night I was grading papers and Brett put it in and honestly, I was interested. :) "May the force be with you!"

Tonight Brett and I got to relax some and spend time together. We cooked dinner together and then did chores around the house. So nice to have a change of pace :) (if you're not familiar, our pace is usually schoolwork....Brett working on his MBA)
2nd Annual variety show coming soon!
Who's excited?

Love :)
There was a staff photo taken at 7:00 a.m. this morning. I forgot about it. Yep, missed the picture completely. This didn't make me very happy but Dr. Rogers took the opportunity to make a joke about it (he loves to give me a hard time ). He told the office people not to give me a hard time because I was "Photo-sensitive".......(sounds like photosynthesis I guess?) He had me laughing about it by the end of the day...and two others forgot too! I was not alone :). (see how distracted parties get me)
But hey-wasn't the Fall Party fun? I personally loved the three-legged race....I got to be tied to Miss Lillie and she whooped and hollered the whole way down the yard. What fun :)
Well, the next thing on the family agenda is the upcoming 2nd Annual Variety Show! It will be bigger and better than ever this year! I'm so glad my family puts up with my newly started traditions
:)
p.s.-I left the camera at the old house so no pictures yet from the Fall Party from my camera...

"Uncle Brett" and I had the sweetest conversations with Kyla last night. :) He talked to her for several minutes and evidently she was telling him about having pizza for dinner, yogurt for a bed-time snack, and oatmeal for breakfast. I asked him if she informed him that pizza was a "sometimes food" and he smiled and said yes :).
Bits and pieces from my conversation with her went something like this:
Aunt S. "I miss you so much Kyla!"
Ky "Well I could come visit you at your house."

Ky "I'm going to be a mommy when I get bigger."
Aunt. S "What will you name your kids?"
Ky "I don't know. I'll tell you when I get older."

I sure do absolutely love my niece and nephews. I get to see them all today and I cannot wait! I even heard a rumor they'll all be in overalls......
Lately, I have had to rack my brain for creativity for my Puppets and Poetry Club, Breakout bible study at church, and for school. However, my mind has been filled with other craft ideas that have nothing to do with those three. (hence, the "Family is forever" pic at the top..no I didn't make it ) :) Brett took me to Hobby Lobby to browse last night....
I summed myself up last week to Brett by saying unfortnuately, lately I would much rather be cutting, gluing, painting and crafting than household chores. :) All of that to say-get out and do something creative this week!
I started a new book series, The Katie Parker Production series, and the author is from Arkansas (sam and Becca's church! ) She teaches in Bentonville too...I e-mailed her to tell her I liked her books and she wrote back! How cool is that?!
partaaaaaaaay this afternoon :) Can't wait!

For: Grandma, Papaw, and Becca:
Picture of part of old house :) There probably won't be ghosts hanging but there will be two red doors and fall decorations.

This is the secret Torbett family salsa.... :) Just kidding, but Brett really did make this salsa (I don't know how) and it is delicious! He used things from the garden and one or two things from the store.
A sneak peak at some Fall Party decorations
I picked this branch up out of our yard. Doesn't it have potential? I thought it looked like the perfect branch to stick in a bucket and hang things on.
Two days of clubs are over! The little ones made bag puppets and wrote acrostic poems this week. So touchy and energetic, these kiddos:)
Happy October

:)
